NDIS Eligibility and Funding
Navigating the NDIS can often feel overwhelming, but we’re here to make it simple. At Kanda, we believe that everyone deserves the support they need to live a fulfilling and independent life. This FAQ page answers your most common questions about the NDIS, from understanding eligibility and accessing supports to making the most of your plan. Let us help you unlock your potential and achieve your goals with confidence.
What is the difference between NDIS and NDIA?
The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is a government initiative that provides funding, resources, and support to people with disabilities to help them achieve greater independence and improve their quality of life. The NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) is the organisation responsible for implementing and managing the NDIS.
Am I Eligible for the NDIS?
To be eligible for the NDIS, you must:
- Be under 65 years of age.
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
- Have a permanent and significant disability that impacts your ability to perform daily activities.
For more information, visit the NDIS website or contact us for assistance.
What types of support does NDIS funding cover?
NDIS funding can cover a wide range of supports, including:
- Daily personal activities.
- Transport to enable community participation.
- Therapeutic supports like physiotherapy or speech therapy.
- Home modifications and assistive technology.
- Supported Independent Living (SIL).
Each plan is tailored to individual needs, so the supports you receive will depend on your goals and circumstances.
How do I apply for the NDIS?
To apply for the NDIS, you’ll need to complete an Access Request Form (ARF), which you can do online, over the phone, or with the help of a Local Area Coordinator (LAC). You’ll also need to provide evidence of your disability, such as reports from health professionals.
What happens next?
Your first NDIS planning meeting is an opportunity to discuss your goals, needs, and the supports you require. Be prepared to talk about your daily life, challenges, and aspirations. Bringing along relevant documents, reports, and assessments, and we’ll develop a plan that addresses your specific needs and your goals.
What is NDIS Support Coordination?
Support Coordination is a service that helps you manage your NDIS plan. A Support Coordinator works with you to connect with providers, explore your options, and ensure your supports align with your goals.
Kanda is partnering with Access Support Coordination to simplify your journey in organising and managing your supports.
What is NDIS Plan Management?
Plan Management helps you handle the financial and administrative aspects of your NDIS plan. A Plan Manager can pay invoices, track spending, and ensure your funding is being used effectively—all at no cost to you.
Kanda is partnering with All Plan Management to simplify your search for accountable plan managers, easing the stress so you can focus on what matters most.
