Complex Care Services

Kanda provides personalised complex care services for people with disability, chronic conditions, complex health needs, behavioural support needs, or age-related frailty. Our team supports people with high-level needs to live safely, confidently and as independently as possible at home, in supported accommodation, or as part of a broader NDIS support arrangement.

We can support daily living, personal care, mobility, medication routines, behavioural strategies, community participation and high-intensity daily personal activities such as complex bowel care, enteral feeding, tracheostomy management, diabetes management and other specialised supports delivered by trained support workers and healthcare professionals.

What is complex care?

Complex care is specialised disability and health-related support for people whose needs go beyond standard daily assistance. This may include people with complex medical needs, high physical support needs, behavioural support requirements, chronic conditions, acquired brain injury, neurological conditions, psychosocial disability, or multiple overlapping support needs.
For NDIS participants, complex care may involve a mix of daily personal care, nursing or clinical oversight, behaviour support strategies, allied health input, mobility support, community participation, and high-intensity daily personal activities. The goal is to provide safe, consistent and person-centred support that helps each person maintain independence, dignity and quality of life.

Complex care vs high-intensity support

Complex care is a broad term for coordinated support for people with high-level or overlapping needs. It may include disability support, behavioural support, nursing input, mobility assistance, social participation and daily living support.
High-intensity support is more specific. Under the NDIS Practice Standards, high-intensity daily personal activities include supports such as complex bowel care, enteral feeding and management, severe dysphagia management, tracheostomy management, urinary catheter management, ventilator management, subcutaneous injections and complex wound management.
Kanda can support participants and referrers to understand which supports are relevant, what training or oversight may be needed, and how to build a safe support model around the person’s goals and daily routine.

How our complex care support works

  1. We understand your needs
We learn about your goals, routines, risks, current support network, health needs, communication preferences and NDIS funding.
  2. We build a personalised care plan
We work with you, your family, support coordinator, healthcare professionals and other providers to create a support model that fits your daily life.
  3. We match the right team
We match support workers and healthcare professionals based on skill, training needs, personality fit, availability and the complexity of your support needs.
  4. We support safely and consistently
We use clear routines, documentation, escalation pathways and ongoing communication so your support remains safe, consistent and responsive.
  5. We review and adjust
Complex care needs can change. We review your support regularly and adjust as your goals, health or circumstances change.

Safety, training and clinical oversight

Complex care requires more than general support. It needs clear care plans, trained workers, regular communication, and a strong understanding of each person’s health, behaviour, environment and preferences.
For high-intensity daily personal activities, workers may need participant-specific training from an appropriately qualified health practitioner, depending on the support being delivered. The NDIS Commission’s skills descriptors are designed to help participants, families, auditors, providers and workers understand the quality of support expected for high-intensity activities.
At Kanda, we focus on safe, person-centred support that respects choice, consent, dignity and daily routine.
