Discover Short Term Accommodation (STA)

NDIS Short Term Accommodation (STA) gives you the opportunity to take a break from everyday life, engage in a range of activities, and develop new skills. It’s a chance to focus on yourself, enjoy meaningful activities, and work towards your goals.

Short Term Accommodation (STA) includes:

  • Accommodation
  • Care and Support
  • Respite and Skill Building
  • Individualised Support

The NDIS typically funds up to 28 days of STA per year, and this funding can be used flexibly depending on what you need. For example, you might choose to use it in a block of up to 14 days at a time or spread it out over one weekend each month. This flexibility allows you to plan your STA in a way that best supports your goals and lifestyle. For families and carers, STA also offers peace of mind—a chance to take a well-deserved break while knowing your loved one is in safe and capable hands.

The NDIS will fund your STA support if it aligns with your goals, such as preparing for independent living, learning new life skills, or building new friendships. STA funding covers food, accommodation, and 24/7 support for the duration of your stay, ensuring your time with us is as enriching and enjoyable as possible.

Short Term Accommodation (STA) FAQs

Short Term Accommodation (STA), is now called Short Term Respite (STR). The NDIS renamed STA on 20 October 2025 to better reflect its purpose of giving participants time apart from their usual care arrangements while informal carers take a short break.

Short Term Respite (STR), formerly known as Short Term Accommodation (STA), is NDIS-funded temporary support that provides care and accommodation away from your usual home for a short period. It is commonly used for respite care, building independence and giving carers a planned break.

STR typically covers stays of up to 14 days at a time, with a total of up to 28 days per year, depending on your NDIS funding and support needs.

Kanda’s STR, formerly known as Short Term Accommodation or STA, can include accommodation, meals, personal care, overnight support, medication assistance, community access and social activities tailored to your individual support needs.

NDIS Participants are typically eligible for STR funding if they rely heavily on informal supports, live with others, or need overnight assistance.
